Wisdom teeth are the teeth located in the back of your mouth and usually develop between the ages of 17 and 25. Often the jaw is not big enough to accommodate the new teeth, leading them to become impacted and cause infection. This in turn causes extreme pain and discomfort.
In young people the roots of the wisdom teeth are not fully formed and the surrounding bone is softer, allowing the teeth to be extracted with less pain. We recommend all young adults be assessed for wisdom teeth to prevent future issues. Depending on the severity, at Townsend Family Dental we offer in chair sedation. Our highly trained seditionist Sarah will assist the dentist in ensuring a comfortable experience without the hassle of having to go to hospital.
